In the mineral processing production in my country, only a very small number of ores can be directly sent to smelting after crushing and screening, while most ores must be ground to 0.1~0.074mm or even finer to make the useful minerals reach monomer dissociation, and can be sent to smelting after sorting. It can be seen that grinding is an important process in mineral processing production. In the mineral processing production in my country, the grinding equipment used for grinding operations is mainly ball mills, rod mills and autogenous mills. In addition, various types of mills are also widely used in industrial sectors such as building materials, chemicals, electricity and ceramics. For example, tube mills are used in cement plants to grind raw materials and clinker; steel ball mills are used in thermal power plants to grind coal as boiler fuel. Some special types of mills have specific uses.

3.1.1 Grinding mill classification
Grinding mills can be classified in several ways, the most practical of which is based on the different grinding media:

 

 

The medium is a ball mill, the medium is a steel rod, the medium is a rod mill, the medium is an autogenous mill, the medium is an ore or gravel, the medium is a gravel mill.
According to the shape of the cylinder, the mill can be divided into two types: cylindrical and conical. At present, there are few conical mills manufactured in China, so in fact, the main manufacturing is cylindrical mills, which include short-cylinder and tubular mills. The ratio of the cylinder length to the diameter of the short-cylinder mill is less than 1, and the autogenous mill belongs to this type; the ratio of the cylinder length to the diameter of the tubular mill (referred to as the tube mill) is greater than 2. Ordinary cement mills belong to this type.

 

 

According to the discharge method, the mill can be mainly divided into three types: ① Overflow type mill: the grinding product freely overflows through the hollow shaft neck at the discharge end; ② Grate type mill: the grinding product is discharged through the pores of the grate plate at the discharge end, and then flows out through the hollow shaft neck; ③ Peripheral type mill: the grinding product is discharged through the pores around the cylinder at the discharge end. In addition, there is the open low-level discharge method of the rod mill and the wind discharge method during dry grinding.
According to the cylinder transmission method, it can be divided into three types: peripheral gear transmission, friction transmission and central transmission (Figure 3-1-1), among which the peripheral gear transmission method is the most used, and the central transmission is mostly used for tube mills.
